Yes yes, we know. It’s not really something to bother blogging about, but we are because…well, because we can!

We were quite honoured to see that Mr Kevin Rudd (or atleast his Twitter profile) commenced following us today and feel that it brings us one step closer to really keeping touch with the “keyholder to the city” so to speak.

Whilst we know that it’s not exactly a sign from god or anything, it’s obviously a sign that Mr K Rudd is interested in that of Australian business, especially if he (or his Twittercontrollers) choose to follow us for one reason or another.

But why follow us? I mean, we’re not exactly the “bee’s knee’s”…or are we?

Of course, we can’t answer the reasons of Mr Rudds reason for following us, but we can say that we feel honoured and grateful to be on “the list” of those to be followed.

It may prove beneficial, it may not….although we hope (like anyone I guess) that something will come of it.

You never know these days and the world is full of suprising things, but hey, if our honourable Prime Minister is taking an interest in the hosting industry and more especially, small australian businesses who choose to take this pathway, then we can only welcome him with open arms.

Recently, Hightek Hosting became an authorised NOC for a fantastic auto-installer application called Softaculous and we’re now about to start deploying it to all our servers.

What is Softaculous?

Softaculous is an auto installer for cPanel and is unlike no other auto installer.

Softaculous is much faster, well designed and installs all scripts in just ONE STEP!

With over 136 scripts and still more in the making, it covers a wide array of categories so that everyone can find their required script to power their website.

Over the next couple of days, we’ll be deploying Softaculous to all our shared and reseller servers so that you can take advantage of this fantastic product.

What does this mean for the current auto installers?

Over coming weeks, all other auto installer products will be removed from our servers including Fantastico and Installatron. We’ve found that Softaculous is a far superior product and we’d like to keep everything uniform across our range.

But don’t worry, Softaculous can import any of the scripts you currently have installed even if it was not installed by Softaculous. The process is very simple and fast and can also import data of the installed scripts from other auto installers like Fantastico. Once imported, Softaculous will be able to maintain the scripts for future updates.

What happens with regards to software updates?

Softaculous gives much faster updates of the scripts it maintains and they understand that updates mean more secure scripts and better safety of the server. Thats why they do their best to ensure that updates are available as quickly as possible!

As mentioned in a few of our last newletters, this year is a new year for Hightek Hosting.

With heaps of ideas planned for new services, products etc, the one thing that bothers us is, What do users want?

Of course, we can’t provide everything that everyone wants, but we’re open to ideas and we’d love for you to share them!

We’ve recently become an Authorised Teamspeak Hosting Provider to deal with demands for Teamspeak server licences as well as to help kick of our gameserver market, and we’ve also become an authorised NOC for Softaculous…and we’re looking to form more partnerships to help increase our product arsenal.

Some ideas already thrown our way are:

1. Shoutcast server hosting
2. Live chat server hosting
3. Third party support services (whitelabel)
4. Video hosting services

And we’re open to more ideas.

So come on, tell us what you’d like us to offer and we’ll add it to the drawing board and see what we come up with!

Phew…that took long enough!

Finally we’ve been able to launch our new Brisbane services….well, part of them anyway.

We’re now set and ready to provide Brisbane based dedicated servers and gameservers, with shared and reseller hosting on the way!

What does this mean for Hightek Hosting?

Well…this means that we’ve now expanded our services and service capabilities and will continue to grow, encompassing the continent at a slow but steady pace.

This also means that we can now provide services that we once thought we wouldn’t, but due to customer demand, we just couldn’t say no!

We’ve got a few servers available with many more to come!

Over the past few months, we’ve had a number of clients request information regarding our support processes and procedures.

In particular, customers have asked questions about locating information, obtaining technical support and how to go about either.

Therefore, we have recently compiled an online document of our support procedures and parameters.

What else is to come?

Oh have we got so much more planned for 2010…but we can’t reveal all the secrets yet!

We can of course reveal that we have some more new services planned, more new products and even a new division planned dedicated to another part of the IT industry, all under the Hightek umbrella!

We’re also getting ready launch….Gameservers!

Yes, you read right!

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes planning this part of things quite carefully, including potential locations and features etc.

Whilst we won’t be setting up individual games themselves, we will be opening up and allowing the hosting of gameservers on the network through a new chain of facilities we’ve teamed up with.

We’ve also teamed up with TeamSpeak, a well known communications software application utilised within the gaming community and have recently become an Authorised Teamspeak Hosting Provider!

We will soon be launching pricing for TeamSpeak servers, so keep your eyes peeled for this!
